Who is the Johnny Appleseed of Dog Parks?
Described as the "Johnny Appleseed of dog parks" by a reporter, a nickname she gleefully adopted, Susyn Stecchi is the DogMom of two dogs (Shiloh and Aimee) and the owner of DogParksUSA(tm) and PawedCastTV(tm).
Susyn was a member of the City Manager's Office team that developed the City of Fort Lauderdale's Riverwalk, along with the Historic District and downtown redevelopment from 1987 to 1990.
Along with Dr. Steven G. Paul, DVM, she founded the very first public dog park in Florida in 1986.
Susyn researched and wrote the 35-page first edition of "So You Want to Build a Dog Park: A Comprehensive Guide for Municipalities and Private Entities" in 1987. This handbook is now 569-pages long and in its eighth edition, and is considered to be the number one book on how to build a dog park.
Susyn has visited over 850 dog parks in the USA, several dog parks in other countries, interviewed dog park managers, and evaluated 180 dog parks in 2010 alone.
